This powerful ancient ingredient has been used for centuries for its healing properties – and no, you don’t need to encounter any sort of dangerous fictional creature to get it.
Growing up I was curious about staying naturally healthy and youthful in the body and mind which gradually became an obsession – this journey has led me to discover and experiment with ingredients from all over the world. And one peculiar ingredient has blown me away with its multiple skincare benefits; Dragon’s Blood.
This tree sap known also as ‘Sangre de Drago’ is found in the Croton Lechleri tree which grows deep in the Amazon forest. This ancient powerful ‘blood’ has been used in tribes for about any skin issue you could think of, such as cuts, abrasions, bites, rashes, redness, fungal issues, sunburn and the rest. It’s a force to be reckoned with!
So I would like to dive into why my Dragon’s Blood Healing Cream my Dragon’s Blood Anti Aging Gel have been so incredibly healing for my customers’ various skin concerns.
1. Anti-bacterial
Whilst these days we have all the pharmaceutical products to aid us when we’ve found anything worrying on our skin, Dragon’s Blood was used as a ‘natural liquid bandaid’ before we could walk into any old Chemist. These incredible antibacterial properties have been a great help to myself when I got some nasty sunburn, and when applied, after an hour the redness faded dramatically. And when my partner was bitten by a spider, (welcome to Australia) we applied Dragon’s Blood and it immediately reduced the swelling.
However this isn’t the main reason why I have created my cream, the healing nature of this sap has some incredible benefits to acne, breakouts and scarring. The role of the blood of the Croton Lechleri tree was to heal the trunk when it was cut, similarly doing the same for our skin. Being a natural wound healer, it helps with preventing acne and clearing up infection and bacteria from the pores – making this ancient sap incredibly beneficial for youthful acne prone/combination skin.
2. Anti-aging
One of the main reasons why I began researching Dragons Blood was its reputation to help reduce and even rewind the aging process of mature skin. One of the main ingredients of this sap is Taspine which dramatically enhances wound healing, regenerating skin that’s been damaged. Whilst this is beneficial for acne scarring, it has major benefits to sun damaged mature skin. Whilst rejuvenating and healing old wounds, it also contains Proanthocyanidins (a bit of a mouthful I know) which are known to repair and strengthen collagen fibres in your skin to firm and plump it naturally, creating a more youthful appearance. These curative powers create what I like to call, a natural facelift.
3. Anti-inflammatory
I am sure you are sick of the “anti” words by now, but I promise you it’s all very important. One of my major benefits of this sap is that it has some magical powers to calm down redness, swelling, rashes, bumps, acne and more. Clients who have struggled with Rosacea have said Dragons Blood is the only product to have helped after 10 years of experimenting with other expensive products. Another way how Dragon Blood is used is taken orally, where ancient Chinese Medicine has used this powerful anti-inflammatory power to dramatically heal persistent various pains in the body. It truly is a miracle worker for skin reactions from various reasons and works hand in hand with repairing tissue and healing all round.
4. Deeply Hydrating
With highly inflamed, mature or acne-prone skin, deep hydration is key to help begin the healing process. From issues such as excessive exfoliation, sun damage, cracked and burnt skin, Dragon’s Blood comes jam packed full of moisture that penetrates deep into the skin. One of the issues I have encountered with ‘moisturisers’ is that it feels incredible to put on yet doesn’t soak in, Dragon’s Blood has this ability to soak, penetrate and leave your skin feeling plump and hydrated all day long. Giving your skin some extra love and nourishment externally.
5. Acts as a “Second Skin”
This is by far one of the most unique aspects of Dragon’s Blood, it acts as a ‘second skin’ on to protect your skin from outside aggressions. Another reason why it has been referred as a ‘liquid band aid’ in healing skin wounds for centuries and keeping a barrier between your skin and any external attackers you may encounter, being sun, wind or hail. But not only is it protecting your skin from external irritants, it’s also firming your skin and helping with this natural ‘face lift’. It’s healing, soothing, hydrating, and protecting your skin all at once, like it once did for the tree. This sap has some serious superpowers.
The reason why I have dived so deeply into telling you about the superpowers of Dragon’s Blood, as it has done miracles for my clients and for my own skin, and I would never preach anything that I wouldn’t use myself. From helping heal various issues such as bites, rashes and even athletes’ feet in my years of using this miracle worker, it has helped so many skincare issues. With its ability to clear out bacteria from our pores, and increase and repair collagen, it is able to heal acne and repair maturing skin – making it so versatile. During its healing process, it helps calm and relieve inflamed skin and hydrate deeply which helps with dry and sensitive skin types. And lastly it then creates a barrier on your skin so that no other external irritants can penetrate what it has done to your skin, which is repairing and healing. This is why I have created my own Dragon’s Blood Healing Cream, which with the added Shea Butter and nut oils, creates a beautiful moisturiser with delicate scents of Lavender, Ylang Ylang and Rose Geranium Essential Oil. From young problematic skin, combination, sensitive, dry and mature, this moisturiser has been made to heal you.
